About

Welcome to the second installment of “Beer & Blasphemy,” a 3-part series (final show is 22.03) that explores Satanic themes in cinema. These evenings, presented by Husets Biograf and Satanic Denmark, will consist of a film screening and an introduction into how these individual movies relate to romantic/Miltonic Satanism. On these evenings there will also be beer brands available that reflect the "ungodly" nature of the proceedings.

19.00 = Introduction

19:30 = FAUST, 1926, directed by F.W. Murnau, 116 min. / The Faust legend is a story which has had many different forms over the centuries. Evolving out of the much earlier Christian Theophilus myth, as well as medieval morality plays, the earlier versions tell of an irresponsible individual who sells his soul to the devil for wealth, fame and knowledge, in order to dissuade its readers/viewers from 'reckless' intellectual pursuits.
In keeping with the tradition of Satanic art in the romantic era, Goethe's Faust has a subversive approach to the story, in that the Faustian bargain is not used solely for evil, and that the protagonist is ultimately saved trough an act of love. Murnau's Faust, while not following either version rigidly, plays on similar subversive themes and thus provides an excellent entry point to understanding the Faust mythos and its place in the romantic Satanic canon and artistic tradition.
